Bronte By Moon carries out a strict selection procedure of all our raw materials ensuring all wool adheres to our consistently high standards year after year. Samples are taken from each wool bale in storage, tested for suitability and finally verified by independent industry experts to ensure the best possible quality.

Finding the best free range wool is very important to us, we source pure wool from our international network of wool growers which has just 0.3% imperfection, subsequently aiding our production process within our Yorkshire mill as our machines can operate at full capacity more of the time.

Among the many natural benefits of wool are its long lifespan (research shows wool is worn longer than other fibrous garments) and its inherent ability to regulate body temparature, keeping you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Unlike synthetic man-made fibres made from unsustainable and non-renewable resources such as oil & plastics, wool is 100% natural and 100% renewable. Wool readily biodegrades at the end of its long life and returns to the earth's soil where it will be recycled to the next life as sheep feed on the grass.  There has been significant scientific research to measure various fibres end of life impact, and wool is considered very low when compared to othes such as polyesters and

Bronte By Moon have a long history of only working with the highest quality wool farms, always ensuring the best care, growth and excellence. Ever since the first wool cloth was made over 3500 years ago sheep themselves have obviously remained the most important asset to a fine fabric, and we are very much are of the belief that all sheep should be given the best environment to thrive in.

All sheep within our suppliers' sustainable sourcing programmeare free range, giving them plenty of grasslands to roam, and are pasture fed, ensuring no food containing chemicals are ingested but only natural & nourishing sustenance. This ethical caring of the sheep follows through into the quality of the wool which is produced.

Every farmer has an enforced animal welfare code they must adhere to, ensuring the best possible treatment of the sheep according to the five animal freedoms. To guarantee each sheep is being treated with respect and care they deserve we visit a selection of international farms annually, completing a quality check of both animal welfare & the quality of the end product. The practice of mulesing is also strictly prohibited. We guarantee that all Moon wool is sourced from anti-mulesing farmers.

Sheep grow a new fleece each & every year, making wool a 100% renewable fibre. Sheep get an annual "haircut" (shearing) for animal welfare purposes, which amongst other things encourages mother and lamb bonding.

Through our suppliers we have records in place to track each & every one of our wool consignments right back to the individual farms on which the wool was grown. This reliable traceability links farmers & their herds to the nearby scouring plants where the wool is washed, and then the subsequent deliveries to our mill.

An important aspect of this transparent supply chain is the positive relationships built with the network of growers; placing consistent demands year after year thus giving them the confidence to invest into the overall welfare of their animals.

Wool is only be purchased if the condition of the farm & sheep are disclosed to us. Our sourcing partner takes annual audits of its full supplier network, using government frameworks as their basis. On top of this, a number of Moon's own Directors  have travelled both domestically & internationally to see the farms with their own eyes, and meet the people on them.

Once the raw wool has been scoured, baled and inspected, it is delivered straight to our fully vertical mill in Yorkshire. At our site every stage of production from natural wool to finished product is overseen by Abraham Moon craftspeople.

It is this quality-driven tandem of our external supply chain and internal factory processes that allows us to manufacture our beautiful wool fabrics and accessories to only the highest of standards.

A 100% natural fibre, wool has served our planet well since the 'Bronze Age'. Fully renewable and biodegradable within a very short timescale, wool also does not enter the Earth's food chain unlike plastic microfibres made from toxic petrochemicals.

Our Wool is scoured in the countries of origin using only eco-friendly detergents, with zero bleach added to enhance the colour.

The production of wool products always requires water-use as a part of the dyeing and finishing processes. At the Moon mill, we have our own artesian well which provides us with our own supply of fresh water, thus not affecting local Guiseley residents. Conscious of the environment, we have reduced our water usage from these boreholes by over 20% within the past decade alone.

We are also energy conscious, so-much-so that we have recently fitted over 300 solar panels to the roofing of our warehouse extension. Solar power provides enough energy to run 10% of our production line, and any energy we don't use at weekends is sold straight back to the National Grid.

As a family owned company, we are commited to re-investing any company profits back into the mill to safeguard for the future. Over the past five years we have spent millions of pounds on projects including installing new roofing to aid insulation, buying state-of-the-art machinery and replacing all lighting with LED alternatives. All of these measures reduce our annual utility usage.
